The Doctor's Office Course Prep Program was established by award-winning professor Sly Douglas, MD, who serves as a Professor of Anatomy and Physiology in the DMV area. The program was initiated in 2023 to support underrepresented students aspiring to pursue careers in healthcare fields such including Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Physical Therapy, and Respiratory Therapy. The program is designed to help students not just pass, but excel in rigorous pre-health courses such as Anatomy and Physiology.
These intensive sessions offered comprehensive reviews and reinforced course material, resulting in positive feedback from students who reported dramatic improvements in understanding concepts, enhanced confidence during exams and ultimately their grades.
The Doctor's Office also hosts organized boot camp for students who are planning on taking Anatomy and Physiology I, Anatomy and Physiology II, or General Chemistry. All students who have participated in the weekly sessions excelled in their courses the subsequent semester.
Since the Doctor's Office inception, all of its enrolled students have achieved either an A or B in Anatomy and Physiology I, and Anatomy and Physiology II. After its first full year of supporting students, one student was accepted into medical school, one student has matriculated into pharmacy school, 2 students were accepted into nursing school, and another student was accepted into the Dental Hygiene Program of their choice.
Given the proven benefits for students, The Doctor's Office has expanded its support to encompass General Chemistry and Microbiology in addition to Anatomy and Physiology.
The Doctor's Office provides students with a platform to ask questions they may find uncomfortable to do in a traditional classroom setting, and interact and learn from their peers. Dr. Douglas' unique teaching style both captivates and challenges students, while effectively imparting knowledge and fostering confidence, particularly in preparation for exams.
Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) courses frequently act as essential gateway courses necessary for the progression and fulfillment of various biological degree programs. Annually, in the United States, more than 450,000 students enroll in A&P courses nationwide. Unfortunately, approximately 150,000 students face failure in their initial attempts. "The Doctor's Office" has been devised to enhance students' outcomes in their A&P course endeavors by employing an intimate and personalized student-centered approach.
